This is a landscape series showcasing one of the wildest mountain massifs in the Carpathians - the Gorgany range. It is renowned for its pristine forests and peaks adorned with distinctive green lichens and moss. The area is particularly enchanting in winter when snow and wind transform stones and trees into ice sculptures, at times resembling distant Arctic regions.
The photo of the Milky Way Arch was captured at an elevation of 1,700 meters on May 15, 2021. Although the mountains are not particularly high, the winters in this region are severe, with several meters of snowfall that can persist until late spring. During the coldest months, temperatures can plummet to as low as -30 degrees Celsius. However, on these frigid nights, the sky remains exceptionally clear, making it ideal for astrophotography.
In addition to capturing the stars, I also enjoy photographing sunsets in this location. One of the most extraordinary experiences I've had was witnessing a breathtaking sunrise during a supermoon. It was an intensely cold February morning following a night of blizzards. However, at 4 a.m., when the storm finally subsided, I ventured out of my tent to behold a perfectly clear sky gradually transitioning into pastel hues. Despite my freezing fingers, I was able to capture this remarkable scene in a double-row panorama, combining a total of 21 exposures.
